DESIGN

A striking 1970s statement piece in bleached raccoon fur with soft white leather paneling, tailored in a distinctly ’70s silhouette reminiscent of the styles worn by It-girls of the era such as Sharon Tate and Jane Birkin.

Falling gracefully to mid-calf, it cinches at the waist with its matching leather belt, creating a sculpted, hourglass line. The pale ivory tone catches the light beautifully, evoking the snowy palette and high-gloss texture that defined late-70s après-ski luxury.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition for its age. Recently cleaned and refreshed by a professional furrier. The coat shows gentle, well-earned wear consistent with its age,  subtle smudging and imperfections on the lining, and wear on the leather corners.

Fur pelt itself is in great condition.

Fully wearable and structurally sound. A distinctly 1970s design, rich in character and unlike anything produced today.

ARCHIVAL NOTES

Crafted in Bay City, Michigan, this coat originates from the closet of Mary Beth Hughes, who wore the coat frequently and well. Her monogram remains stitched inside the lining, a quiet trace of its original owner.

Bleached raccoon was among the most coveted furs of the late 1970s, prized for its dense texture and soft champagne cast once treated to that near-white finish. Pieces of this quality would have retailed for $1,200–$1,600 USD at the time (equivalent to over $8,000 today).

PACKAGING NOTES

Ships as part of The Fur Salon collection, accompanied by a custom Fur Salon matchbook and archival care door hanger, designed to echo the quiet glamour of vintage hotel lobbies and winter soirées.
